CLINTON, N.C. — A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper and a Garner man were hurt Thursday afternoon when their cars collided near Interstate 40 in Sampson County, authorities said.

The crash happened about 2 p.m. on N.C. Highway 403 near Clinton.

According to the Highway Patrol, the unidentified trooper was driving east near the I-40 connection when a 2010 Subaru driven by Thomas Gauthier, 59, failed to stop at a stop sign at N.C.403 and pulled into the trooper’s path.

Both men were taken to a local hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
