State Officials to Review Tied Lumberton Election

The State Board of Elections has been asked to investigate an election for Lumberton City Council and possibly authorize a new election.

LUMBERTON, N.C. — The State Board of Elections has been asked to investigate an election for Lumberton City Council and possibly authorize a new election.

The Robeson County Board of Elections had planned to settle a tie in the Nov. 6 election on Tuesday, but board members decided to refer the matter to the state board.

District 7 Councilman Leon Maynor and challenger Laura Sampson ended the election tied at 214 votes apiece. When he new council is sworn into office Dec. 10, Maynor will retain his seat until state officials resolve the issue.
