State Farmers Market's pumpkin contest is Thursday

The popular contest featuring decorated pumpkins is Thursday. Kids can enter.

The State Farmers Market's 25th annual decorated pumpkin contest is this Thursday.

Judging will start at 9:30 a.m. Thursday . Pumpkins can be entered between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday in the farmers building. Age divisions include categories for kids 8 and under and 9 to 15.

Pumpkins can be carved, painted or both (just don't try entering an artificial pumpkin). For more information about how the pumpkins are judged, check the website. Cash prizes in each age division.
And in other market news, the Carrboro Farmers Market will have a fall family day from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 and will include pumpkin painting for kids, a scavenger hunt and more.
And the market at North Hills will have its Halloween Bash from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 30 with a costume contest for both kids and dogs, crafts, pumpkin painting, games, a DJ, balloon artist and more. The Chick-fil-A cow will lead a parade through the market ending with an announcement of the costume contest winners around 11 a.m. During the last hour, there will be activities at the market followed by trick or treating at participating stores.
