State Fair to honor military on Wednesday

Members of the military will be recognized throughout the day Wednesday at the N.C. State Fair.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Members of the military will be recognized throughout the day Wednesday at the N.C. State Fair.

The first 3,000 people through the gates will receive a free U.S. flag, and a special parade honoring the military is scheduled for 11 a.m.

The parade, which will feature military bands, starts on the Midway and travels past Dorton Arena and through Kiddieland.

A military appreciation program is scheduled for the waterfall stage at noon, and there will be other shows at 2, 4 and 6 p.m.

The National Guard will also be on hand to show off military equipment.

Active-duty military members, reservists, retirees and National Guardsmen and their dependents can receive discounted fair tickets for $6 every day of the fair. Proper identification must be presented at the ticket window.
