State Fair Roundup (Oct 15)

Posted Updated

The Fair Web site finally has attendance numbers up. 51,995 for Friday and 96,522 for Saturday. These are about even with historical averages, but lower than average attendance in recent years.

Did you know there were two Cuckoo Haus fun houses? There's one in the new midway and one on the kiddie midway. The paint jobs are slightly different, but they appear to be the same kind of fun house.

I heard three different watergun game operators warn people off certain guns in the games because they weren't working right. Maybe there really isn't water water everywhere.

There's a vendor called Unleashed selling dog items in the Commercial Building. You can win a prize if you guess how many tendons they have in the tendon jar. I am not kidding.

Wondering where all the farm animals are on the fairgrounds? Check out the map available at the NC State Fair Web Site.

The Fair site has also started posting winners of the special cooking contest. The first one was the House-Autry Mills In Your Oven "For Your Family" Recipe Contest, which was won by Janice Wolfe of Fuquay-Varina. She won $250 for her Honey Mustard Oven Fried Potato Wedges. Her recipe and that of the other winners are available here.

Dave Horne of Cary is taking some amazing Fair pictures. Check them out at Flickr. Great job, Dave, especially the ostrich!
