Star Dreams: How much do child actors really earn?

Dollar, the mom of two grown girls, now represents more than 300 kids ages 4 and up across the Carolinas.

Today, Dollar talks about money. While some of her clients earn tens of thousands of dollars and even more than $100,000, most never reach that level. Dollar tells me that 75 percent of her clients will make $1,000 or less this year.

"There is potential for making money, but that can't be the reason you get into it," she says.

And the activity isn't cheap. There are costs to travel to auditions, for head shots and to take classes.

"It takes a lot of commitment," she tells me. "It takes commitment from the whole family."
