Sprinkles possible, but not likely on New Year's Eve

"We should be dry through the evening hours and out to around midnight," he said. "There may be an isolated sprinkle from around midnight on."

The best chance for rain comes on New Year's Day, which will be cloudy with a high of 46.

"Once we get to the morning hours (on Tuesday), there's a very slender chance of some spotty rain, and that chance increases quickly as we go through the day," he said.

"(That's) not as cold as it could be this time of year," Moss said.

Leading up to the holiday, Sunday will be sunny, windy and cool with a high of 45 degrees.

"Have the jackets with you all day today. In fact, maybe a coat would be a good idea as the winds will make it feel colder," Moss said. "Winds should diminish some through the afternoon as the center of high pressure moves closer."

After New Year's Day, high temperatures will remain below normal – in the low 40s – through the end of the week, with another chance of precipitation on Thursday or Friday, he said.
