Stock up on kids' items at swap meet

It's time to unload those closets and start tagging items for another round of children's consignment sales.

The twice-a-year series of sales begins again with the giant Kids Exchange at the N.C. State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. The sale is open to the public from Jan. 23 to Jan. 26, though consignors and volunteers can shop earlier.

The sales are a great way to stock up on items for kids - from clothes and toys to baby gear and bikes. This season, you'll mostly find spring and summer clothes. Think Easter dresses, summer play clothes, bathing suits and more.

There's also plenty of time to sign up to consign or volunteer at the sales. Consignors and volunteers typically have the opportunity to shop earlier than the general public so they can nab the best deals. Sales typically charge a small fee and take a cut of the sales. I typically sell as much as I buy, so I come out even.

We have more than three dozen sales across the region. They run between this month and May. Not all of the sales have finalized their dates and locations. Our consignment sale database has the latest. I'll continue to update it as the season moves forward. Happy shopping and selling!
