A fire at a Spring Lake apartment complex early Saturday displaced at least a dozen people, according to Cumberland County firefighters.

SPRING LAKE, N.C. — A fire at a Spring Lake apartment complex early Saturday displaced at least a dozen people, according to Cumberland County firefighters.

Authorities said the fire broke out in the Heritage Apartments at 1069 Pine Knoll Drive around 3 a.m. Firefighters from several departments labored for 2½ hours to put out the blaze.

The flames damaged 12 units in one building. One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The Red Cross helped the displaced residents with temporary shelter, food, clothing and counseling.

The cause of the fire hasn't been determined.
