Rain chances lessen but linger
Rain will be less frequent and less intense Monday, but that doesn't mean the wet pattern is over, said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.
Posted — Updated"We're looking at almost two solid weeks with a good chance of rain," she said.
There is about a 60 percent chance of showers at any time on Monday, with the best chances in the afternoon. Areas to the south and east of Raleigh could even see a thunderstorm during the late afternoon.
A combination of a low pressure system over the Gulf and Mexico and a high pressure system over the northeastern United States has North Carolina trapped in between, keeping our air moist, Gardner said.
"Just like last week, we are seeing that influx of moisture from the Atlantic, just from a different source," she said.
A cold front arrives on Wednesday, but it will stall over central North Carolina and keep the chance of rain in the forecast even into next weekend, Gardner said.
"We'll see temperatures really drop Thursday and Friday," she said. "We could see lows in the 50s on those mornings."
