Rain lets up, fog sets in for start of work week
An area of low pressure off the East Coast will continue to bring spotty rain showers to parts of central and eastern North Carolina on Sunday, ending the weekend on a soggy note, WRAL meteorologist Nate Johnson said.
Posted — UpdatedWRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said that the rain is expected to let up Monday as a high pressure system to the north begins moving away.
Monday will bring warmer temperatures, with highs in the upper 70s, but the day will begin with heavy cloud cover and fog.
"It'll be a warm start to the week tomorrow," Wilmoth said.
The chance for periods of light rain and drizzle remain in the forecast through Tuesday with the possibility of storms in the afternoon and evening in communities east and south of the Triangle.
Despite predictions of cloud cover, the skies cleared long enough on Sunday night for many in the Triangle to catch a glimpse of the lunar eclipse, although clouds persisted in the west and northwest parts of the area.
"We have had some breaks in the clouds so you're able to see the fabulous lunar eclipse," said Wilmoth.
