Tom Suiter: Carolina Keeps It Together Against Arizona

Posted Updated

I covered the UNC-Arizona game, and Carolina looked good in a game they had to look good in.

The Heels shot over 56 percent. They also won the battle of the boards by eight and kept their turnovers to just 13, which was a key for them.

Having lost three of their last four, Carolina needed this one --- at home on national televsion against a team with talent. Although Arizona played tired, and of course, they are a West Coast team and the 1 p.m. start to them was really 10 a.m.

Where would Carolina be without Tyler Hansbrough? (Probably the NIT) The kid battles and plays with intensity all the time. He makes the others better -- Arizona crowded him, and it opened up things for Wes Miller and Danny Green. You may wonder why Wes Miller is interviewed a lot -- he's a great talker, which helps us all out.

Anyway, a good day for Carolina. Lucky for the Heels that the ACC as a whole is down, because they have a great shot to make the NCAA's. Still though, Hansbrough needs help underneath, and if the outside shots don't fall, they're in trouble.

Still, in a watered-down league, in my mind, Carolina's behind Duke and State (despite their win over the 'Pack) and Boston College, and their chances after that are about as good as anybody else's. we'll see.

I don't like a runaway win -- they can sure put you to sleep if you don't care who wins -- but I saw one today (by the way, Roy Williams gives you much better stuff when they lose as opposed to when they win...figure that out.)

Hope all is well. Actually, the game of the weekend is the Duke-UNC women's game on Sunday -- should be a honey.
