Tom Suiter: Not A Good Day For State

Posted Updated

John Calipari decided to stay at Memphis and N.C. State Sophomore Cedric Simmons says he's going to test the NBA Draft waters. It wasn't a good day for the Wolfpack.

The 6-9 Simmons averaged 11.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the Pack and showed flashes of great potential but was far too inconsistent. He does have ability but another year of college would be most beneficial to him. However with the money that is out there, you can't blame him for trying to see how high his stock is. He won't hire an agent thus leaving the door open to return to State which I think in the long run would benefit his game and his future.

We've also learned that Duke's 6-10 Freshman Josh McRoberts is leaning toward the NBA Draft as well. McRoberts is projected on many pre-draft web sites to be a high pick. There again his game needs a lot of work but the NBA likes his potential and the money for him could be huge. Still his freshman season was filled with inconsistencies and he was up and down most of the season.

Meanhile the State coaching search continues. Many people are mentioning John Brady of LSU. Sure, he took his team to the Final Four this season but check out his overall record. How good a coach is he really?

Jay Wright at Villanova and Tom Crean at Marquette. . . . hmmm. Whatta you think?
