Tom Suiter: Some Picks For The Weekend

Posted Updated

Saturday is week two of the college football season and some key games will be played. What did we learn from week one in the ACC?

Florida State and Miami have great defenses. At least you hope they’re great which makes for a good excuse for some awful offensive football.
N.C. State has talented players-and once again the Pack has scheduled itself into a bowl game.
Carolina’s run defense was terrible and if it doesn’t improve there will be plenty of boos and empty seats at Kenan Stadium.
Poor Duke. Will they score a point much less win a game?
Big things were expected at Wake Forest with all their experience. Now they have to do it without their quarterback.
Clemson won a ho-hum game against a bad team, but it lost the heart and soul of its defense, linebacker Anthony Waters for the season with a knee injury.
Boston College is big and slow and their fans think pretty good.
Virginia is glad that Duke is in its division.
Ga. Tech gave Notre Dame fits and the Jackets won’t be easy for anybody.
Virginia Tech easily beat Northeastern as they should, but did we learn anything about a team that lost a lot from last year?

What will happen this week? Here are a few picks.

N.C. State over Akron: Sure, Akron can throw the ball but see what I mean about scheduling your way into a bowl.
Wake Forest over Duke: A great way for the Deacons to break in a new quarterback.
Va.Tech over UNC: Carolina in the John Bunting era has come back from poor efforts to pull surprises and do we know how good Va. Tech is? Still, the pick has to be the Hokies.
In a huge ACC game, I’ll take Clemson with better athletes on the road at Boston College.
In the national headliner, I look for the Ohio State Buckeyes to knock off the Texas Longhorns.

Don’t go to the bank on any of them but do enjoy.
