Tom Suiter: This Week's Saturday Picks

Posted Updated

Well, last week in my selected picks I went 4-1. My only miss was Duke and Virginia. For some unknown reason I took Duke. What the heck was I thinking? It may have been the most awful game that I’ve seen in person in a long while.

For that reason, Duke will not be included in this week's picks although it certainly would be a sure win because there is no way in heck the Devils will win at Alabama. If I pick Duke in subsequent weeks, please check to see if I’m feeling okay.

This week, I am picking six games. By the way, in Jeff’s picks on the Friday night late news I’ve crept within four games of Pam Saulsby, but somehow she’s got the magic. If any of us lose to Pam, we won’t hear the end of it.

Carolina at Miami.. The Canes certainly aren’t world beaters-but they’re sure as heck better than the Tar Heels. My pick is Miami.Clemson at Wake Forest.. The Deacons are undefeated and want respect. Win this one and they get it. My pick is ClemsonVirginia at East Carolina. The Pirates are hungry and playing at home. This would be huge for Skip Holtz and ECU and I think they’ll get it. My pick is ECU.LSU at Florida. This is a tough one. I like LSU’S toughness. My pick the Tigers in the swamp.Tennessee at Georgia. Another SEC battle of the Titans. Georgia’s having a lot of problems on offense. I go with the road team again. My pick the Vols.Texas vs Oklahoma in Dallas. Mack Brown when he was at Carolina wrote a letter to our management in support of Football Friday. That helped keep the show on the air in the early 90’s. This is a toss up, but I think Texas will make it two straight over the Sooners. My pick is Texas. The two games I’ll watch the closest are, of course, the two ACC games. John Bunting and Larry Coker are both feeling the heat. The interesting thing here is that Coker has been successful in his tenure, while Bunting has not been, but they’re both in trouble. The difference in programs is that Miami thinks 9-3 is terrible. UNC thinks 6-6 is good.

Carolina was in this same situation two years ago when they upset the Hurricanes in Chapel Hill. They’ll need an influx of new players to do it Saturday.

Wake Forest is the only undefeated team in the ACC and the only undefeated team not in the top 25.

Clemson may be the league's best team, but injuries are piling up. The Deacons very well coached and playing at home. This a real chance for them to make a national statement. We’ll see.
