Tom Suiter: Football Friday - Week 8

Posted Updated

Coming up, this Friday will be our eighth Football Friday show of the season. We plan on going three weeks into the playoffs, so we're at the halfway point. Football season is my favorite time of the year. It seems to me like you blink, and it's Friday again.

Last week, rain and that terrible Apex chemical fire turned our best laid plans upside down, but that's all part of the business. We're all grateful that things seem back to normal in that wonderful community. And despite the rain, a number of our teams did play in our viewing area.

This week, our weather gurus tell us things should be clear but cold. State and Carolina are both holding open basketball practices, which will hurt our coverage some because that will cause a small photographer problem. Plus, one of our best guys has come down with a bad back. But, as they say, the show will go on, and on it will.

Our plan (of course, subject to change -- and if we somehow lose one more photographer, it will change) is to cover 27 games involving teams from 19 counties.

Here you go….

Knightdale at Southeast Raleigh
Garner at West Johnston
Riverside at Northern Durham
Person at Southern Durham
Eastern Wayne at Wilson Hunt
Lee County at Athens Drive
Cary at Green Hope
Apex at Middle Creek
Lumberton at Terry Sanford
Harnett Central at Union Pines
Leesville Road at Sanderson
Southern Wayne at Wilson Beddingfield
Northwest Halifax at Bunn
Rocky Mount at Southern Nash
Enloe at Broughton
Jordan at East Chapel Hill
Louisburg at North Edgecombe
Nash Central at Southwest Edgecombe
Northern Nash at Wilson Fike
Wake Forest-Rolesville at Wakefield
Gray's Creek at Southern Lee
Midway at James Kenan
Hobbton at Union
Northern Nash at Wilson Fike
Hillside at Chapel Hill
Scotland County at Richmond County
Orange at Cardinal Gibbons

A lot of big games with perhaps the biggest the Mid-Southeastern Conference game between archrivals Scotland County and Richmond County. A huge crowd will be there, and this will be a much-watched game around the state.

Remember, the best way to ensure that your score gets on Football Friday is to call us. Our toll free number is 1-888-472-9725.

We really appreciate the number of calls we're getting on scores. In all the years we've done the show, this has been our easiest year in getting scores called in. Thanks to all who have taken the time to call.

Take in a game Friday. There's nothing like high school football.
