I don't know who came up with the idea but cudos to matching up the ACC and the CIAA for some preseason basketball. I would much rather see Carolina play St. Augustine's rather than the old days when ACC teams feasted on teams like Marathon Oil or Brandt Hagen. ACC and CIAA players cross paths quite a bit, either in summer league ball or from AAU teams of the past. Carolina got a 31 point win over St. Aug's on Wednesday but how stoked do you think the Falcon's Antonio Fitzgerald was hitting 27 in the Smith Center?
What a compelling story when Shaw visits Duke Thursday night. The Bears are coached by former Duke forward Robert Brickey. Do you know how proud Brickey will be walking back into Cameron indoor leading his Bears into battle with the Devils? Chills baby, chills. This weekend, NC Central will meet Duke in a battle of Durham and election Tuesday will feature St. Augustine's at NC State.
The results of these games may be lopsided but they mean something to both teams and I'm so glad the ACC and the CIAA have formed a partnership. It is well worth watching.
