Tom Suiter: Picks For Nov. 18

Posted Updated

How about this? Last week I went 5-1 in my picks, which the way things have been going for me is downright excellent.

There are some rivalry games this week, which always makes things interesting, so here we go.
N.C. State at UNC: Both have had dismal seasons, Carolina’s moreso than State. The Wolfpack has found about every imaginable way to lose close games, but at least they’ve been in them.
Carolina has played better and it is John Bunting’s last game as head coach in Kenan Stadium. They will have emotion on their side, and maybe that will make a little difference.
Still, I think State is a better team and they should win. Woe be to Chuck Amato if State loses its third straight to Carolina and to a 1-9 Tar Heel team to boot.
My pick is N.C. State.Virginia Tech at Wake Forest: Virginia Tech comes in at 8-2. Wake Forest is 9-1. These are two really solid, well coached teams.
I keep thinking Wake Forest won’t keep winning, and yet they do. They smashed Florida State, and of course, I picked the awful 'Noles.
Even if the Deacons lose, they can still win the Atlantic Division. Va. Tech is out of the Coastal Division race.
Who do you go with? If it’s me, I go with the Hokies on the road. I think they’re better.
My pick is Virginia Tech.Maryland at Boston College: Maryland at 5-1 in the league, and is tied with the Deacons in the Atlantic Division. Boston College is a game back. Maryland has steadily gotten better, while Boston College has been solid all season. Don’t you know B.C. is kicking themselves over that loss to State? They should have won that one.
My pick is Boston College.East Carolina at Rice: Man, have the ECU fans come out of the woodwork! The Pirates are competitive again and they want everyone to know it. If 6-4 East Carolina wins at 5-5 Rice, ECU goes to the Conference USA Championship game. I love the way the Pirates have turned it around.
My pick is East Carolina.Auburn at Alabama: The loser of this game carries the burden around forever. Auburn is out of the national title picture, while Alabama was never in it.
Nothing makes Auburn fans happier than to go to Alabama and win, and they should do it Saturday.
My pick is Auburn.Michigan at Ohio State: So much is at stake in this one. Both teams are undefeated. Ohio State is ranked No. 1 in the country, while Michigan is No. 2. The Big Ten Championship is at stake, and a trip to the national championship is at stake. These are the two best teams in the country. Only one can win. Two equal teams playing with so much at stake. You’ll be able to cut the tension in this one with a knife.
Ohio State is playing at home and that’s the difference.

My pick is Ohio State. There you go. Some games to mull over. Can’t wait to pick that big Duke-Carolina game next week.
