Tom Suiter: The Last Football Friday ...

Posted Updated

This Friday is our final “Football Friday” show in this, our 26th, season, and I must tell you that it’s been a most enjoyable season.

We’ve had a great deal of interest in the program, and that has been very much appreciated. And this has been the best season ever in getting scores called in, so thanks to all who took the time to do so. You helped make our job a lot easier.

The day after the Thanksgiving holiday is always a challenge. Many of our photographers are off, and the games are far and wide. It’s also tough to fill a show with so many fewer games than normal, but the challenge is always fun. The fewer games does allow for more in-depth coverage.

Because of the distance that our crews have to travel, sometimes, the tape from certain games isn’t back at the station in time to make its slot in the show, so we have to float those highlights until they are edited. It makes it interesting, but I have learned not to worry, because they will always make it eventually -- maybe not where I wanted, but they’ll be there sooner or later.

Here’s what we will attempt to cover in this the third week of the state playoffs.

Durham Riverside at Leesville Road
Seventy-First at Garner
Fuquay-Varina at Greenville Rose
Eastern Alamance at Southwest Edgecombe
Jones Senior at Northampton West
Southern Vance at Wilmington Hoggard
Pender County at James Kenan
Northwood at Southern Vance
Clinton at Bunn
Rocky Mount at Western Alamance

We also hope to get Hobbton at Elkin from one the stations in the Triad. Also, we hope to get highlights from Charlotte of Davie County at Independence as Independence goes for its 106th straight win.

As always, here’s the number to call in your scores: 1-888-472-9725.

Thanks to all for watching and a special thanks to all of those who helped me put together the program. The list is long. We will run credits at the end of Friday’s program, and it’s amazing to see how many people worked to help make this show possible.

Hope every one has a great holiday weekend!
