NEW HILL, N.C. — Inspectors at Duke Energy's Shearon Harris nuclear plant in southwest Wake County have found a flaw there for the second time in a year.

Duke's Scott Williamson notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Nov. 18 that an ultrasonic inspection revealed the flaw, invisible to the naked eye, in a nozzle.

The plant was not active at the time. It shut down Nov. 9 for refueling, a scheduled bit of maintenance, and will not start back up until the flaw is repaired, Duke told the NRC.

"The flaw and repair have no impact to the health or safety of the public," Williamson wrote in his report.
