Southern Pines homeowner assaulted during break-in

Southern Pines are investigating a residential break-in Wednesday afternoon in which the homeowner was assaulted.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Southern Pines are investigating a residential break-in Wednesday afternoon in which the homeowner was assaulted.

Police said the homeowner surprised a man who had broken into a home in the 300 block of West Rhode Island Avenue around 2 p.m. The burglar pushed the homeowner down and escaped on foot.

Police described the suspect as a black man, about 35 years old, 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighing approximately 260 pounds. He has short hair. He was last seen wearing a brown sweatshirt, dark pants and a yellow undershirt.
