FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fort Bragg soldier died early Tuesday from injuries sustained in a Monday evening crash in Fayetteville, police said.

Holden Jeffrey Philbrook, 19, was operating a motorcycle on Cliffdale Road at about 6:30 p.m. when the bike hit a Toyota Tundra pickup that was turning left in the Brookstone Apartments complex.

Philbrook was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and later airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where he died.

The driver of the Tundra, Gordon Frank Gardner, 32, of Fayetteville, wasn't hurt in the crash, which shut down Cliffdale Road between Bunce Road and 71st School Road for more than three hours.

Fayetteville police are still investigating the wreck, and no charges have been filed.

Philbrook, originally from Citrus Heights, Calif., was an indirect fire infantryman with 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.
