Snowfall totals vary widely across area as storm pushes out

WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said some of the highest snowfall totals were reported in northern Durham, Person, Granville and Vance counties, where some areas saw as much as 9 inches.

"We have seen reports pretty consistently of 6 to 8 inches in our northern locations," she said.

In Wake County, where rain mixed with snow at times overnight, most areas saw between 2 and 6 inches – with lower totals piling up in the southern part of the county.

Farther south, in Johnston, Harnett, Lee, Moore and Cumberland counties, the winter storm ended up being a cold rainmaker.

"We had a report of three tenths of an inch in Angier, and that's about as far south as we saw any reported accumulation," Gardner said. "We can't rule out a couple of slick spots in the south, but most of those spots are just fine this morning."

Areas with heavier snowfall amounts will deal with treacherous road conditions all day as high temperatures hover around freezing. The wet, heavy snowfall could also continue to contribute to thousands of power outages across the area.
