Smithfield man charged with death of 6-month-old daughter

Guillermo Tinajero-Resendiz was charged with involuntary manslaughter and negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury, according to police.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Smithfield police on Wednesday charged a 28-year-old man with the death of his 6-month-old daughter.

Guillermo Tinajero-Resendiz was charged with involuntary manslaughter and negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury, according to police.

On Nov. 5 around 11:20 p.m., officers responded to 2003 S. Bright Leaf Blvd. in Smithfield to assist Johnston County EMS, who were responding to a call of an infant experiencing difficulty breathing.

Upon arriving, officers found the infant unresponsive and not breathing. She was later transported to Johnston Medical Center where she died.

An autopsy was completed on Nov. 8, and it was determined to charge Tinajero-Resendiz.

Tinajero-Resendiz received a $150,000.00 secure bond and had a first appearance in Johnston County District Court on Wednesday.
