DURHAM, N.C. — A 23-year-old Durham man died early Saturday after being hit by a truck while skateboarding on Spruce Street, police said.

Investigators said Reilly Shamus was traveling north on Spruce Street near Holloway Street at about 8:30 a.m. when he was hit by a 1998 Chevrolet truck driven by Melvin Council.

Shamus was taken to a local hospital, where he died. Investigators said Shamus failed to yield the right of way prior to the wreck.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash, which is still under investigation.
