CARTHAGE, N.C. — Six people from Moore County have been charged in connection with recently reported cemetery larceny and vandalism at a cemetery in Southern Pines, the Moore County Sheriff's Office announced Saturday.
According to investigators, Ronald Bruce Bartholemew Jr., Jonathan Hughes Frye, Grace Anne Vrendenburg, Tyler Jay Crowell, Donald Edward Gillis and Christina Marie Taylor stole about 30 brass flower vases and damaged headstones at the Pinelawn Memorial Park in Southern Pines.
After the larceny, deputies were able to recover the stolen vases.
The following charges have been filed in the case:
Ronald Bruce Bartholemew Jr., 40, of 103 Ferndale Lane, West End: Four counts of felony disturbing a casket or grave marker, two counts each of felony larceny, felony conspiracy to commit larceny and misdemeanor larceny. Bartholemew was being held in the Moore County jail Saturday under a $20,000 secured bond.
Jonathan Hughes Frye, 27, of 256 Legion Hut Road, Carthage: Three counts of felony disturbing a casket or grave marker, two counts of misdemeanor larceny and one count each of felony larceny and felony conspiracy to commit larceny. Frye was being held in the Moore County jail Saturday under a $10,000 secured bond.
Grace Ann Vredenburg, 27, of 180 Sarges Drive, Carthage: Four counts of felony disturbing a casket or grave marker, two counts each of felony larceny, felony conspiracy to commit larceny and misdemeanor larceny. Vredenburg was being held in the Moore County jail Saturday under a $2,000 secured bond.
Tyler Jay Crowell, 19, of 442 Carthage Road, West End: Three counts of felony disturbing a casket or grave marker, two counts of misdemeanor larceny and one count each of felony larceny and felony conspiracy to commit larceny. Crowell was being held in the Moore County jail Saturday under a $10,000 secured bond.
Donald Edward Gillis, 32, of 153 Quail Lane, Aberdeen: One count each of felony disturbing a casket or grave marker, felony larceny and felony conspiracy to commit felony larceny. Gillis was released from the Moore County jail after posting a $2,000 unsecured bond.
Christina Marie Taylor, 34, of 153 Quail Lane, Aberdeen: One count each of felony disturbing a casket or grave marker, felony larceny and felony conspiracy to commit felony larceny. Taylor was released from the Moore County jail after posting a $2,000 unsecured bond.
All six people charged in the case will make their first court appearances on Feb. 24.
