ERWIN, N.C. — The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert Wednesday evening for a missing Erwin woman.

Debra Lynn Groves, who is believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment, was last seen at 500 South 16th St.

The 20-year-old woman is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. Groves has long, brownish red hair. She was wearing a green T-shirt, blue jeans and black and pink tennis shoes.

Groves may have been seen near the Church's Chicken off of New Bern Avenue in Raleigh shortly after being reported missing.

Anyone with information about Groves' whereabouts should call W.H. Morris at the Erwin Police Department at 910-893-9111.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system that quickly notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
