DURHAM, N.C. — A Silver Alert was issued Sunday afternoon for a 45-year-old Durham woman who was last seen Christmas Day and is believed to suffer from dementia or other cognitive ailment.

Annette Harris Grant is a 5-foot-7 black woman, 230 pounds, with shoulder-length black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a gray sweatsuit, a black jacket and white tennis shoes. She may be operating a 1995 gold Toyota Corolla with North Carolina registration ACA-8870.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
