The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons on Friday morning canceled a Silver Alert for Albert Lacy Mebane, of the town that shares his surname.

<b>MEBANE, N.C.</b> — The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons on Friday morning canceled a Silver Alert for Albert Lacy Mebane, of the town that shares his surname.

It was not immediately clear if Mebane, 77, had been found.

The alert for Mebane was sent out Thursday afternoon. He had last been seen driving away from his home Wednesday morning to go to Pleasant Grove.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing, endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.<br />

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
