Siler City firefighter dies in crash while responding to call

A 24-year-old Siler City firefighter died early Tuesday morning in a car accident while he was responding to an EMS call.

SILER CITY, N.C. — A 24-year-old Siler City firefighter died early Tuesday morning in a car accident while he was responding to a call.

Joshua Woods was driving south on Silk Hope Road just after 1 a.m. in response to an EMS call, according to the Town of Siler City Fire Department. Woods' vehicle crossed the center line, overcorrected and traveled off the southbound shoulder of the road. The vehicle struck a ditch and then two trees, the department said.

Woods was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed was identified as a contributing factor in the crash, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
