Severe weather possible in Triangle Sunday

The wind coming out of the Northeast kept temperatures in the Triangle in the 50s and 60s on Saturday. Despite the shifting front, the skies remained dry for most of central and eastern parts of the Tar Heel state.

"It will not stay dry tomorrow," WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said. "We have the potential of getting some showers and thunderstorms as we wrap up the weekend."

Wilmoth said the western part of North Carolina has the best chance of seeing overnight precipitation and thunderstorms.

"Have the rain gear handy because it'll be scattered about across the area tomorrow," Wilmoth said.

Wilmoth said a warm front with moist air will enter the Triangle on Sunday with temperatures in the high-50s to low-70s.

"It'll be a warmer day for us tomorrow and more humid as well," Wilmoth said. "We do have the potential to see some severe storms. However, we're on the lowest end of the threat scale."

The possibility for severe weather will last through Monday, but the threat will continue to be marginal, Wilmoth said.

"It looks like the bigger threat will be south and east of the Triangle as we head into Monday," she said.

Temperatures will rise into the mid 80s on Monday with lows in the 60s.

"Between now and Wednesday or Thursday, some of us could see up to two inches of rain," Wilmoth said. "Rain gear is in order for the next several days."
