BURLINGTON, N.C. — An Alamance County sheriff’s deputy was hit and dragged about 25 feet by a driver trying to get away after a traffic stop.

Fredrick Slade, 47, faces several felony charges, including possession with intent to sell and distribute cocaine; delivering cocaine; possession of weapon of mass destruction, kidnapping and assault on a law enforcement officer. He faces misdemeanor charges of resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer, possession of marijuana and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Slade was also cited for driving with a revoked license.

On Wednesday, the Sheriff's Office Street Crimes Unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the intersection of Bland Boulevard and North Church Street in Burlington.

Slade attempted to get away in his vehicle, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. The release states a deputy was hit by Slade’s open door and carried about 25 feet. It states the deputy then got into the moving vehicle, had a “brief struggle” with Slade, got control of the vehicle, brought it to a stop and arrested Slade.

The release states the deputy had minor injuries and received treatment from EMS at the scene.

A probable cause search found 11 grams of cocaine, a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an automatic handgun.
