RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County District Attorney's Office said Tuesday that it has dismissed a misdemeanor second-degree trespassing charge against a Shaw University student who wouldn't leave a campus library.

Na'Eem Shaemey Wilkins, 21, was charged Sunday night after two requests for him to leave the building when it closed at 11 p.m.

A Shaw University spokeswoman said Monday that it wasn't clear why he would not leave.

Friends have said Wilkins is an honor student who was trying to study for exams.

Prosecutors did not say why they decided to dismiss the charge.
