All week during our weathercasts, we have showcased severe weather risks in areas off to the west, and you probably noticed a different look to the risk graphics.

Last year the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla. revised the scale in defining the risk for severe storms, expanding the scale to five categories. Their hope was to give a better understanding of the risks and what could come along with it.

Above is a compilation of the new scale so you will have a better understanding of what to expect when we eventually are placed in a risk. You might want to copy this image and keep it handy so you can refer to it during severe weather potential days!
