Seven students nabbed on pot charges in Apex, Cary

Apex High School student Andrew Benjamin Mayhew, 17, N.C. State student Andrew Thomas Lloyd, 18, and Wake Tech student Andrew John Mitchell, 19, were arrested by Apex police at a vacant home on Markham Street Sunday.

They were each charged with intent to sell and distribute marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Mitchell, of 111 Friendly Drive in Raleigh, was also charged with maintaining a vehicle to keep drugs. He was being held Monday at the Wake County jail under a $6,000 bond.

Mayhew, of 1208 James St. in Apex, was also charged with resisting an officer. He and Lloyd, also of 111 Friendly Drive in Raleigh, have been released from jail.

Warrants state that police seized a digital scale with a green, leafy substance on it, glass pipes and zipper storage bags from Mayhew. 

Early Monday, Cary police arrested four men in Middle Creek Park.

N.C. State student Auston Patrick Haynes, 19, Middle Creek High School student Steven Charles Piccirillo, 17, Wake Tech student Alexander Leverde, 18, and Holly Springs High School student Tristan Herbert Brown, 18, were each charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession with intent to sell or deliver the drug.

Police seized more than 3 ounces of marijuana from Brown, according to a warrant. Under North Carolina law, possessing more than 1.5 ounces of marijuana is a felony.

Brown, of 4308 Ellenwood Drive in Apex, and Leverde, of Heritage Creek Drive in Apex, were being held Monday afternoon in the Wake County jail under $10,000 bonds. Haynes, of Saint Edmonds Lane in Apex, and Piccirillo, of Summer Brook Drive in Apex, have been released.
