Services for Fallen Guardsman Scheduled for Wednesday

Funeral services are scheduled Wednesday for Sgt. Blake Williams, of Tarboro.

TARBORO, N.C. — Funeral services are scheduled Wednesday for Sgt. Blake Williams, of Tarboro, who was killed on March 22 while in action in Iraq.

Williams, 26, a member of the North Carolina Army National Guard, was serving his second tour in Iraq when he was killed by a roadside bomb.

Williams was one of three members of the 1132nd Military Police Company, headquartered in Rocky Mount, killed near Baghdad when an improvised explosive device struck their vehicle while on patrol.

Also killed in the explosion was Sgt. Thomas C. Ray, 40, of Weaverville.

Ray's funeral was scheduled for Tuesday morning in Weaverville.
