SANFORD, N.C. — A second Sanford man has died following a three-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on U.S. Highway 15/501 near the Chatham-Lee county line, authorities said.
David William Riddle, 55, died Wednesday night at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Riddle was a passenger in a 2006 Honda Civic that authorities said was stopped in traffic because of bridge construction and was rear-ended by a 2002 Buick. The Civic's driver, William Smith Jr., 72, died in the crash.

The impact forced the Civic into a 2007 Toyota SUV, injuring the driver and passenger. The Buick's driver wasn't hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
