ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. — The Coast Guard and Marines on Saturday evening suspended the search for a 67-year-old man missing off Cape Lookout since Thursday.

The girlfriend of Michael Dodick reported him missing when he was overdue from a boating trip.

“The decision to suspend was made after an exhaustive effort was expended by numerous Coast Guard units from Air Station Elizabeth City to Station Emerald Isle," said Captain June Ryan, commander of the Coast Guard in North Carolina. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Michael Dodick during this very difficult time.”

The Coast Guard said rescuers searched for Dodick by air and sea in a 13,413-square-mile area, about the size of Maryland.
