RALEIGH, N.C. — The search for an escaped inmate from western North Carolina has brought authorities to Raleigh.

Investigators said they are looking for clues in the Wakefield area that would lead them to Xavier Shaw, 45, who was sentenced to prison for kidnapping and robbery charges.

Last week, he escaped from an inmate crew that was building an addition to Alexander Correctional Institution in western North Carolina. He hid inside a truck at the work site, authorities said.

Shaw's sentence would've ended Aug. 30, but he has charges pending in Wake County in a January bank robbery.

Anyone who has seen him or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call local law enforcement or Alexander Correctional Institution at 828-632-1331.
