SCOTLAND NECK, N.C. — Detectives in Halifax County say a fire that destroyed a two-story wood-frame home is suspicious.

The owner of the home at 12390 old U.S. Highway 125, near Mullen Road, was out of town when the fire started at about 9:30 p.m. Friday.

A dog that was inside the house made it out safely, detectives said.

The sheriff's office and the State Bureau of Investigation are investigating. The cause was not released.
