ENFIELD, N.C. — A new sawmill will bring 350 jobs to Halifax County over the next three years, Gov. Bev Perdue announced Wednesday.

Softwood timber manufacturer Klausner Lumber Two will build the sawmill in Enfield with help from state grants. The company is receiving the Job Development Investment Grant and a grant of $750,000 from the One North Carolina Fund, which was designed to provide financial assistance to business expansion projects. The company is expected to invest $110 million in Halifax County, a spokeswoman for the governor said.

Under the terms of the Job Development Investment Grant, the company could earn as much as $3.91 million if it meets and sustains job creation targets over the next 11 years.

The average wage of the new positions will be $32,603 per year, higher than the average wage in Halifax County of $27,924, the spokeswoman said.

The company produces custom-sized rough and planed lumber products. Their products are used in the construction, pressure-treating, furniture and packaging industries. Klausner is based in Tyrol, Austria, and operates two sawmills in Germany.
