Saturday mostly sunny; clouds return by Mother's Day
Central North Carolina residents looking to spend time outdoors Friday and Saturday won't have to do it with any concern for the weather, as both days should be filled with abundant sunshine and high temperatures in the mid-70s.

"We've got a giant area of high pressure system dominating weather across much of the eastern United States," WRAL Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.
"It's pulling in cool, dry air from the north and giving us absolutely gorgeous weather in the Triangle."
That pattern continues Saturday with northerly winds helping to keep dew points well below average for mid-May.
Temperatures should be in the mid-50s to low 60s during the morning hours, when several local colleges and universities host commencement ceremonies.
High temperatures should climb into the mid-70s during the afternoon hours, Gardner said.
Moist air will return to central North Carolina on Mother's Day as a low pressure system moves into the area from the south and west.
Much of the area should stay dry, but if the system speeds up Friday or Saturday it could cause sprinkles by late in the day Sunday, Gardner said. High temperatures will return to the upper-70s to close out the weekend.
"This storm is strengthening as it heads our way," Gardner said. "Showers will more than likely hold off until Monday, but we can't completely rule out some sprinkles or showers late in the day Sunday."
Rain chances will linger in the forecast Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, as high temperatures climb into the mid-to-upper 70s each day.
