Sanford Police Make Arrests in 2 Home Invasions

SANFORD — Sanford Police have made arrests in two separate home invasions.

Three people have been arrested and have been charged with a home invasion that occurred December 14. Police say the three went to the home of Jose Delafuente Garcia to commit a robbery.

During the attempted robbery, Garcia's daughter, Maribel Garza Delafuente, was shot once in the chest. She later died. Garcia was also shot and is still recovering.

All three suspects are charged with first degree murder, first degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Those arrested are 24-year-old Larry Bernard Brown of Sanford, 21-year-old David Fitzgerald McLean of Sanford and 29-year-old Henry Rufus Gillard of Lillington.

All three suspects are being held in the Lee County jail without bond.

Sanford police had been searching for a second suspect in a home invasion on Dec. 7. That person was picked up last week in Asheboro.

William Spinks is accused of storming a house in Sanford and holding a family hostage, killing one man.

Spinks was arrested last week and brought back to the Lee County jail, where he is being held without bond.
