<b>SANFORD, N.C.</b> — Lee County authorities said Friday that they were investigating a fatal shooting in Sanford.

Deputies responding to 1935 Minter School Road at about 10:20 p.m. Thursday found that David Jerell McNeill, 31, had been shot in the abdomen. He told deputies that he had been shot outside 1883 Minter School Road and ran down the street seeking help.

McNeill was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where he died.

Authorities released no other details of the shooting, such as a possible motive or descriptions of any suspects.
