Sanford man faces multiple charges, including rape

Lee County sheriff's investigators have arrested Abimael Castillo Ramirez, 24, on several charges, including first-degree rape, in connection with an assault on a woman Saturday night.

SANFORD, N.C. — Lee County sheriff's investigators have arrested a man on several charges, including first-degree rape, in connection with an assault on a woman Saturday night.

Abimael Castillo Ramirez, 24, of 55 Densen Lane, also faces charges of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree sexual assault, assault on a female, assault inflicting serious injury, communicating threats and interfering with 911 communications.

The sheriff's office said the victim reported that Ramirez assaulted her until she lost consciousness and then raped her and committed other sexual acts. She also told deputies that he threatened to harm her.

Ramirez was arrested Monday and placed in the Lee County jail, where he was being held without bond Tuesday.
