Sanford man charged with murder

Sanford police have made an arrest in connection with an overnight fatal stabbing.

SANFORD, N.C. — Sanford police have made an arrest in connection with an overnight fatal stabbing.

Ismael Tavera, 25, of 61 Thornwood Court, was stabbed to death at about 5 a.m. Sunday during an altercation at 113 E. Witherspoon St., authorities said.

Police said they arrested Jose Francisco Hernandez, 23, of 308 Midland Ave., at the scene and charged him with first-degree murder.

Hernandez was also treated for an injury to his elbow at Central Carolina Hospital.

Hernandez was being held Sunday in the Lee County jail without bond.  His first court appearance was scheduled for Monday.
