Sampson mobile home fire spreads to four cars

Fire erupted at a mobile home near Newton Grove Sunday and windy conditions caused it to spread to cars parked nearly 20 feet away, authorities said.

NEWTON GROVE, N.C. — Fire erupted at a mobile home near Newton Grove Sunday and windy conditions caused it to spread to cars parked nearly 20 feet away, authorities said.

Sampson County fire investigators said they were called to the scene at 5:15 p.m. Arson isn't suspected, but the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The fire started in a double-wide mobile home at 1859 Smithfield Highway. It then spread to the grass and eventually to four cars parked nearby, authorities said.

Two people were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor smoke inhalation. No one else was hurt.
