In the mood to try some meal worms? Maybe, a cricket covered in chocolate?

Well, you will get your chance to sample some insect cuisine and learn more about these creatures during BugFest at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.Β

From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, the museum and surrounding areas will be turned into bug central. The Nature Research Center, which opened earlier this year, will also join the fun with more than 100 educational stations, presentations, displays and live music.

The theme for this year's 16th annual festival is the praying mantis, but you will have a chance to learn about a variety of bugs, including bees during a special beekeeping workshop.Β

One of the highlights every year isΒ CafΓ© Insecta, where local restaurants and businesses use bugs as the main ingredient. This year's participants areΒ Buku, Willmoore CafΓ©, Rocky Top Hospitality, Market restaurant and the Chef’s Academy Culinary School. The cafe opens at 10:30 a.m. outside of the museum and closes when food runs out. Best of all, it is free!Β

And just in case you aren't a big fan of the bug cuisine, there will be food vendors on site.Β

From 5 to 7 p.m., evening activities will include a street festival with live music, street performers and more.Β

BugFest is free!
