Royal Shakespearean epic in rotating repertory at PlayMakers

PlayMakers Repertory Company stages Shakespeare's version of English history with "The Making of a King: Henry IV and Henry V." The two plays, now in repertory at PlayMakers, present timeless themes as relevant today as they were when Shakespeare wrote the texts 400 years ago.

Fathers and sons, husbands and wives, the costs of war…all themes explored in William Shakespeare’s Henry IV and Henry V, and all keenly relevant to audiences in 2012. PlayMakers Repertory Company stages the two plays in rotating repertory as “The Making of a King,” an epic coming-of-age story.

The classic plays take you on a journey with Prince Hal from his unimpressive beginnings in dark taverns under the tutelage of Sir John Falstaff, to becoming one of England’s greatest kings, Henry V.

The plays run through March 4, and you still have two opportunities to see them both back-to-back. On Feb. 25 and March 3, see Henry IV at 2 p.m. and Henry V at 7:30 p.m. Don’t worry about how to squeeze in a tasty dinner on those days because boxed dinners from Whole Foods Market will be available for purchase. Pre-ordering the dinner when purchasing show tickets is recommended.
