Rolesville swim clinic to feature Olympians

Here's a chance for all the swimmers competing in summer swim meets to improve their strokes ...

Six Olympians and University of Tennessee's head coach will run a swim clinic this weekend in Rolesville to benefit cancer research at N.C. State.

Brian Goldman, a Raleigh doctor, long-time swimmer and head coach of the Meredith Townes Mudpuppies, is behind the clinic. Goldman has stage 4 colon cancer that has returned.

The clinic takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, at Granite Falls Swim Club, 800 Granite Falls Blvd., in Rolesville. The 90-minute technical swim clinics aims to provide high level instruction on stroke improvement. All participants must be able to swim all four strokes. A general age guideline is seven years, but it's most important that they are able to swim all four strokes.

To participate in the water polo clinic, participants must be able to swim 25 yards. The cost is $50 for the swim clinics and $20 for the splash ball/water polo clinic. Space is limited.

Charlie Houchin (2012 Olympic Gold Medalist), Elaine Breeden (2008 Olympic Silver medalist), Chloe Sutton (2008 and 2012 Olympian), Ashley Twichell (open water world champion), Alex Rousseau (1992 and 1996 water polo Olympian), Dan Velez (2008 Olympian), and the University of Tennessee head coach Matt Kredich will be there.. A percentage of the funds raised will go towards Dr. John Cavanagh's work at N.C. State to develop new cancer therapies.
